![]() ![]() ![]() I think its fair to compare these games on how well they immerse you in a space simulation. Terran conflict had this edge by having real systems and planets like earth and mars. compared to actually warping into a system like in ED like something out of startrek and you are able to litterally discover and visit real star systems - damn thats awesome. Flying around in space highways banging into traffic becasue the autopilot cant work out how to avoid it or using a capital ships jumpdrive while docked in a pretty shoddy looking docking bay - this isnt fun gameplay. Feeling like you have freedom to explore and discovering new uncharted space is a big attraction to space sim games for me. so to me its not as preposterous to compare these games as others might think. īut to me, both games are designed to deliver an element of exploration and discovery in spaceĪnd you can trade from station to station and upgrade your ship. Ok - so its not a fair comparison i totally get that. I cant tell you how tempted i am to click that download button for £50.00 and not wait till its released officially for 35.00 ( preorder ). It just seems that xrebirth will never have this level of immersion or compatibility. These points along with the fact that you can play singleplayer AND online is just a dream come true and its compatible with the oculus rift - AND has SLI and CROSSFIRE support. In Elite you can litterally free roam around a MASSIVE galaxy freely and visit hundreds of systems- ok they are not all populated with interesting things (YET ) but you have the freedom to check it out - this to me is real free mode. Įlite dangerous warping to different systems is just spectacular - Xrebirth Highways are not anything as interesting in my opinion, it just doesnt feel liek you have much freedom ,įor example - STALKER vs DAYZ - you are limited by portals in STALKER so each area is preloaded and like a box - DAYZ is totally freeroaming, its a more immersive experience. Xrebirths skunk in comparison is hardly what you would say customisable- and the animation walking on and off the skunk and the experience of walking around on the station isnt something to rave about yet - and this might not be any better for a long time. and you then go down into a mechanics bay and see your ship up close - and there are soo many upgrades to choose from already with more to come. You land your ship on a landing pad with a hologram showing your ship in relation to the touch down pad. No question about it - sometimes there is just too much going on on screen - Youtube videos of the new beta of elite dangerous seems to feel more like empty space - allowing for higher frame rates - smoother gameplay and better ship handling. Im toying with the idea of getting it but feel a bit gutted that Xrebirth may just not ever get played again - I remember a previous post that claimed that xrebirth had more to offer than elite but when i take these points into account - theres really no contest. It was called 'Starflight'.Ive gotten a bit bored of xrebirth of late - and im interested in Elite dangerous now that its price tag has been reduced to £50.00 = ( $79.85 ). It ran on DOS in 16 colors, was single player and came on 5.25" floppies. I think the actual FIRST Space Fight/Trade game was for the old 8086/8088/286 based IBM Clones. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone at Egosoft will buy a copy of Elite: Dangerous themselves. That was the last of Elite for a while, I believe due to Licensing issues (publicists controlling rights etc) and obviously the spark of interest that got it back into consideration was the 25th Anniversary. Later Braben released a prototype of the sequel as "Lander" (a mouse controlled game where a spacecraft would move across a continually created landscape), before Frontier: Elite 2 was released. The whole of Elite fitted onto one 5 1/4" Floppy, it had a small memory footprint due to PC's at the time requiring all the drivers and the program to run in under 512k (640k for those that were lucky) It was completely programmed in Assembly. While Starwars did have an X-Wing game, it was just dog fighting. ![]() Balrog1978 původně napsal:The makers of Elite made some of the first true space sims over 2-3 decades ago!!īraben and Bells original Elite as far as I'm concerned was the original Space fighter/trader game. ![]()
